Emerson recently announced its new Appleton™ Areamaster™ Connect LED floodlight designed for harsh and hazardous industrial environments. Equipped with a WirelessHART network sensor module, an integrated photocontrol, and automated lighting controls, Areamaster Connect LED floodlights let facility managers optimize lighting operations to only use light when needed. Facilities can now extend product lifetime and reduce their energy consumption by up to 80 percent compared to traditional light sources, all while strengthening WirelessHART mesh networks.
With versions that offer up to 38,000 lumens and the flexibility of four different beam patterns and five color temperatures, the new luminaire meets a wide range of lighting requirements. It also conforms to NEC/CEC and ATEX/IECEx hazardous certifications for global use in the most demanding environments.
Integrated Photocontrol for Daylight Harvesting
The majority of industrial flood lights on the market today require the separate purchase of a discrete photocontrol that adds to the cost and complexity of installation. To avoid these problems and promote reliability, Emerson engineers hardwired the Areamaster Connect’s photocontrol and contained it safely within the luminaire enclosure.
Once the luminaire’s integrated photocontrol detects natural light, it will measure the brightness and automatically dim the Areamaster Connect to a safe preset level in response to changing daylight availability. The intelligent LED driver has a dimming range of 0 to 100 percent brightness that takes the Areamaster Connect’s potential energy savings far beyond that of other LED flood lights.
Customers can choose from either a hazardous location version of the Areamaster Connect LED floodlight for tank farms and areas where flammable gases and vapors are present, for example, in oil and gas refineries, hydrogen plants, wastewater treatment centers, and petrochemical processing, or an industrial version for ordinary locations, such as steel production plants, power generation facilities and loading docks. Both versions are IP66/67 rated and NEMA 4X for marine use.
