Preventing Repeat Failures

At the time of installation, the museum was not checking power quality conditions on an ongoing basis. The units were installed based on the scope of the prior damage and the operational challenges associated with future failures. “We’re not watching it day to day,” Taussig said. “This was a preventative step. It was about safeguarding those circuits, so this doesn’t happen again.”

By installing circuit-level power quality protection on the lighting circuits serving the high-bay fixtures, the project team addressed the most immediate risk without overhauling the building’s electrical infrastructure. Repair costs and operational disruption can escalate quickly when lighting systems fail. This makes circuit-level protection a practical loss-prevention measure that helps reduce the risk of repeat damage from unpredictable power events. For a facility where fixture access is difficult and lighting failures are disruptive, the focus was simple: protect the fixtures and avoid having to do the same work twice.
